2024 Proton S70: Release Date, Engine, Price & Full Specs
2024 Proton S70: With its launch imminent, Proton Holdings Bhd has officially confirmed the full specification details of its much-anticipated S70 sedan.
This includes some new and leaked information that has surfaced on social media and other platforms. Additionally, the media has been specially invited to give the car a run on the test track.
It can now be confirmed that the sedan will come in four variants: Executive, Premium, Flagship and Flagship X will come in four models.
The car will compete directly in the B-segment market and bring with it C-segment offerings – something the S70 is capable of offering much more than our initial impression.
No pricing has been given about the car though the company said the car could occupy a unique market position within Proton’s offerings – where it is meant to fill the gap between the Persona and the company’s X series X50 sports utility vehicle (SUV).
The 2024 Proton S70 stated that they currently have enough SUVs in their range and thus decided to launch a sedan.
All variants will be launched using a 1.5L turbocharged engine mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission to deliver 150Ps and 226Nm of torque.
There will be three drive modes Eco, Sport, and Comfort.
This alone differentiates the 2024 Proton S70 from Geely’s Emgrand model on which the Proton sedan is based – the Chinese automaker’s car doesn’t come with a 1.5L turbo engine but is instead fitted with a 1.5 liter naturally aspirated inline-4 engine that makes 115 Ps and at least 145 Provides hp power.
According to Proton, the car is made up of at least 70 percent all-new parts from the S70 Emgrand, which includes heavy localization in features and tuning.
To that end, the New 2024 Proton S70 authority says the car has undergone 75,000 man-hours of testing as well as 1.2 million kilometers of road testing.
At present 55 percent of the vehicle’s parts are sourced locally, with a target of at least 75 percent eventually, they said.
When questioned, Proton says it decided to launch the S70 with a 1.5L multi-port turbocharged engine instead of direct injection for its performance and overall cost strategy.
All we know so far is that the car has a boot capacity of 500L. Android Auto and Apple Carplay won’t be present at launch but will only be available via update at a later date.
As mentioned earlier, the standard Executive variant will be available globally with six SRS airbags, lane change assist, an electric parking brake, 16-inch alloy wheels, fabric seats, and an eight-inch infotainment head unit. The premium variant adds LED headlamps, a rear tail light bar, leatherette seats, and a reverse camera among other exciting features.
The flagship variant gets an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), a tire pressure monitoring system, 17-inch alloy wheels, a 10.3-inch LCD meter combination, a driver power seat, a 12.3-inch infotainment head unit, a wireless charger, and a 360. Has – Degree camera with 3D display. What the X variant has over the base flagship is the addition of a sunroof.
The car will come in seven colors namely Snow White, Armor Silver, Space Grey, Passion Red, Marine Blue, Quartz Black, and Teal Bayou Green.
All colors of the base flagship are available except for Quartz Black, which is only suitable for the X variant, though it has dropped the silver and red options.
The 2024 Proton S70 is the fourth the latest Proton model to be developed together with Geely and is the first sedan, the previous three models being the X70, X50, and X90 sport utility vehicles.
It is the second all-new model offered this year and the first sedan to be added to the Proton lineup since the Persona was launched in August 2016.
A monthly sales target of 2,000 units has been set for the Proton S70. It has already received 400 bookings after the model’s line-off ceremony last month.
All Proton outlets will start accepting bookings with a deposit of RM500 from 1 November. So far no other details including launch date and price are available at press time.
