2024 Ford Mustang S650: Interior, Wheels and Braking
Rarely does something like this occur. The 2024 Mustang, the seventh generation of Ford’s iconic Pony Car, the world’s best-selling sports coupe, and probably America’s most adored vehicle, was presented at an event in Detroit on Wednesday. This new Mustang, with the chassis designation S650, shares the same platform as the S550 Mustang, which made its debut in 2014. The greenhouse and hard points are therefore unchanged, but the S650 has undergone other changes that collectively give it a distinctive appearance and feel from its forerunner. Mustang chief engineer Ed Krenz says Road & Track, “With the current generation car, we’re beginning from a fairly solid point.
Twin Scroll Turbocharger
The new twin scroll turbocharger including an electronically regulated wastegate and dual-fuel system that utilizes both port and direct injection are two features of the base 2.3-liter EcoBoost. The beloved Coyote engine from Ford’s fourth generation, the 5.0-liter V-8, now has an a double intake system fed by apertures along both side of the bigger front grille. Ford hasn’t yet released performance figures for either engine, but the EcoBoost will have more power than the previous model’s 330 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque, and the V-8 should have at least 480 horsepower.
The available transmissions include Ford’s own 10-speed automatic, a basic six-speed manual from Getrag, and carryovers. The Mustang comes equipped with a novel “Remote Rev” option for automatic vehicles, allowing the driver to start and rev the engine by pushing a button on the key fob. For obvious reasons, manual Mustangs cannot have it.
Wheels of 2024 Ford Mustang S650
Ford claims that this is the most “athletic” Mustang yet, despite the fact that the integral-link rear suspension and front strut suspension are virtually the same, with the exception of additional links on vehicles with 19-inch wheels. The weight of this new Mustang, according to Eddie Kahn, vehicle engineering manager, should be similar to that of the S550. The steering feel of the S550, which is already good, is believed to be enhanced with a revised steering rack with a quicker ratio (15.5:1 vs 16:1) and stiffer mounting points. According to Krenz, the difference between the steering of this generation and the one before it may be felt after just 15 seconds. “It makes a significant distinction in a blind tasting test. Nothing is subtly done.”
For both the EcoBoost and GT, the Performance Pack is also back and includes strut-tower bracing, a Torsen Limited-Slip Differential, staggered tires, larger Brembo brakes, and optional MagneRide dampers. Notably, the GT Performance Pack has enormous four-piston brakes in the back and six-piston Brembo brakes up front.
2024 Ford Mustang S650 Electronic Drift Brake
The Mustang has replaced its mechanical parking brake with an electrical switch, like many contemporary vehicles. However, depending on how far the driver pulls the handle, some S650 models have a “Electronic Drift Brake” that gradually locks up the rear wheels alone. The EDB, which was created in collaboration with drifting icon Vaughn Gittin Jr., resembles a small, conventional parking brake, but buyers can remove the side bolts to install a vertical handle. Despite Ford opting for a more “edgier” overall style, the design has some common weak areas that make it feel recognizable.
The most significant modifications are at the ends of the vehicle, with new and distinctive front fascias for both EcoBoost and GT variants, and at the back, where a sharp, angular taillight design and the removal of the black plastic panel connecting the two can be seen. The triple-segment front and rear lights and U-shaped grille are present and properly accounted for Mustang trademarks.
Mustang S650 Interior
The S650 Mustang’s interior is dominated by its sizable screens for the infotainment system and gauge cluster. Higher-trim variants have both screens merged into a single housing, whereas base models have separate screens for each. The gauge cluster can be set up in a variety of ways, including a Fox-body display, as would be expected. The infotainment system is a variation of Ford’s Sync4, however there includes a drive-mode menu particular to the Mustang that is powered by Unreal Engine, a popular game engine. Pricing won’t be released until until the time the 2024 Mustang goes on sale, which is probably in 2019.
It’s an interesting time for American performance automobiles that the new Mustang gets released. Dodge recently unveiled the Charger Daytona SRT Concept, a sneak peek at an impending electrified muscle vehicle, as well as the announcement that production of the current Charger and Challenger would come to an end. The Chevrolet Camaro, the Mustang’s earliest rival, is most certainly doomed to fail after this generation.
The Mustang may eventually become the sole internal-combustion sports coupe available in America. This could be the final internal-combustion Mustang due to the extended lifespan of the model – only the seventh version has been produced in almost 60 years—and the fact that Ford and the rest of the globe are moving toward an electric future.
